Lone Star Park Horse Racing Picks for Wednesday 6/17/20

Lone Star Park has nine races slated for today. Which horses should you bet on at FanDuel Racing?

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 2:35 p.m. EST today, we have nine races at Lone Star Park. Using our projections as a guide, here's a look at some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

(I will be referencing Equibase's Speed Figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions)

Top Hat Tantrum, Race 2 (3:07 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 5/2

In Top Hat Tantrum's final race of 2019, the filly achieved a speed figure of 74 -- impressive for this field. She has had multiple solid workouts at Lone Star since mid-May, showing good form ahead of her 2020 debut. She'll be jockeyed by Danny Sorenson, who has pursed the fifth-most at this track this year.

Doc's Denita (8/1) has placed 2-1-2 in this last three starts and has looked to be in decent form in 2020. Jockey Stewart Elliott is best at this track. Lauren's Lassie (15/1) is a longshot who should not be overlooked. Betting favorite Miss B (2/1) underwhelmed in her last two efforts but has the ability to beat this field by several lengths.

Shake It Up Tracy, Race 5 (4:43 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 2/1

Shake It Up Tracy is the current betting favorite and for good reason. The filly is coming off a runner-up finish where she attained a speed figure of 78. It was her second top-two placement in three efforts. Overall, her four outings at this track since early May have all been superb. Jockey Ramon A. Vazquez has been excellent here this year.

Fashion Island (3/1) has shown winning form since late May. She should be well in the mix. Nimble Kitten (12/1) is our model's top pick. The mare is coming off a 76-figure outing and has had okay workouts at this track over the last three weeks. Notorious Gal (9/2) has the jockey and ability to be thereabouts in Race 5.

Willow Moon, Race 8 (6:15 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 12/1

Willow Moon comes into the race today in fantastic form. The filly has posted an average speed figure of 69.7 in her last three after not topping 67 in any of her previous nine efforts. She'll be ridden by Ramon Vazquez as well, and he's won 19% of his races this year.

Daddy's Melody (12/1) is our model's pick despite the long(er) odds. The mare reached figures of 80 regularly in 2019, though her form to begin 2020 has been on the poor side. She has had a couple of excellent outings here in June, making her a great play. Current betting favorite Hallmark Girl (8/5) won her only race of 2020 with a figure of 61. She'll have Elliott as jockey. Covert Special (6/1) should be in the mix.

Troy Ounce, Race 9 (6:45 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 3/1

Despite being the current betting favorite, Troy Ounce is not projected to finish top-three by our models. However, I like the colt's odds. Trained by Steven M. Asmussen and jockeyed by Stewart Elliott, Troy Ounce could not be in better hands. Though his last two races were poor, he has had five career efforts with speed figures of 84-plus. He also ranked 2nd of 38 horses in a workout at Louisiana Downs three weeks ago.

Don't Forget (7/2) is bound to be among the early finishers in the final race of the day. His three races in 2020 haven't produced great results, but his figures weren't poor in those. His workout at Lone Star 10 days ago was elite. Coupled horses Major Brown and Major Shipman (5/1) are good bets as well. The same can be said for Cool Quartet (9/2).
