Santa Anita Horse Racing Picks for Friday 6/12/20
With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.
Starting at 3:30 p.m. EST, we have eight races at Santa Anita. Using our numberFire projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.
As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.
(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).
Conquest Cobra, Race 4
FD Odds: 6/5
Many short fields Friday at Santa Anita and this $20k claimer drew just five runners. Eight-year-old gelding Conquest Cobra (6/5) will be the controlling speed going 1 1/8 miles and one of the likely winners on today’s card. No value or win payoff, but numberFire has him on top and so does Daily Horse Picks, and each projection has Camino de Estrella (2/1) next best as top challenger. Three straight runner-up finishes this year with a best 102 speed figure should have Camino de Estrella moving late with a chance at the top pick.
Rawhide Rawlins, Race 5
FD Odds: 4/1
Race 5 is for state-breds going 1-mile on the turf. Pick 3 and Late Pick 4 players looking for a score will add a number of runners in this tricky Maiden Special Weight race. Rawhide Rawlins (4/1) may prove value after closing strong at long odds and finishing third in his debut sprint. Likely improvement as he stretches out.
Unusually Handsome (5/2) is the favorite and top pick at numberFire. The rider switch to Prat is positive, but Unusually Handsome has yet to win in six tries while posing consistent mid-80’s speed figures. Still, he’s been tested at this distance and longer and edge for trainer Peter Miller.
Foothill (5/1) staked the pace in his only race before finishing fourth and can run better stretching out. Tropical Terror (3/1) has been knocking at the door with three straight runner-up finishes. This closer has been caught wide but 80’s speed figures are solid for this group. Mike Smith takes the mount and a better chance. Include.
Table for Ten (12/1) makes his debut and can’t discount at a distance with EPO trainer D’Amato.
Enriched by Deb, Race 8
FD Odds: 5/2
The biggest field and race concludes the day at Santa Anita in a 6 1/2 furlong Maiden race. Enriched by Deb will take money as a favorite dropping to this $20k claiming level for the first time. Don't think EPO matters? Trainer Richard Baltas and his ‘feeding’ has teamed with his favorite jockey Flavien Prat to produced 10 wins and 4 runner-up finishes in 17 starts when favored. Confirm odds and check tote.
Elemental (5/1) will set the pace and try to steal it on the front end. Full Eclipse (7/2) keeps trying without a win in 12 starts and not likely again today.
Kirsch Truffle (5/2) was steadied and pushed to the back last out before making a run. Logical at this level again and the top pick at FanDuel Racing with a 29% chance to win.
