Thistledown Horse Racing Picks for Tuesday 6/9/20
With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.
Starting at 12:50 p.m. EST today, we have eight races at Thistledown. Using our projections as a guide, here's a look at some of the best bets.
As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.
(I will be referencing Equibase's Speed Figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions.)
Fancy Pants, Race 1 (12:50 PM)
FD Racing Odds: 4/1
Fancy Pants has the combination of form and rider that are indicators of a potential winner. The mare won her last race in February, posting a Speed Figure of 82 in that one. Her last time out was at this track five days ago, where she ranked 1st of 24 horses in a 4-furlong workout. She's no stranger to this distance. She'll be jockeyed by Gerardo Corrales, who won nearly 30 percent of his 406 races here last year.
Current betting favorite Tiger Lisa (7/5) also has both the form and rider in hand to make noise in the first race. She also was victorious in her last race, a February effort that saw her achieve a Figure of 86. Her workout at this track 10 days ago was solid, and her jockey, Luis Raul Rivera, finished behind only Corrales in purse last year. Anita Marie (3/1) is our model's winning projection. Her last few races don't inspire confidence, though her outing here 10 days ago makes her an intriguing pick. Flashy Patch (4/1) should be thereabouts.
Miss Laura Lou, Race 5 (2:50 PM)
FD Racing Odds: 6/1
Five of the nine runners in this race have yet to have an outing in 2020, and one of those is Miss Laura Lou. The mare placed first in three of her final four races of 2019 and finished top-three in each of her last seven. She reached Speed Figures of 75-plus in all of her last four efforts.
Stephanie's Faith (8/1) had a poor showing in her only race in 2020 but had won three of her previous seven races at Thistledown. Though it was only 3 furlongs, her workout here a week ago was superb. Current betting favorite Arrowsphere (3/1) showed excellent form in her April outing and looked sharp here two weeks ago. numberFire projects Hasty Lady (7/2) to win this, though the filly would need to improve on her 2019 form to be in the mix.
Last Drop of Wine and Johnny U, Race 7 (3:50 PM)
FD Racing Odds: 9/2
These two both have excellent chances in this one. Last Drop of Wine is a two-time winner at this track and has posted incredible speeds in the process. Johnny U has won three of five 2020 efforts and will no doubt be in the mix.
Current betting favorite Liberate (5/2) has too good of a track record to ignore. The gelding has won four of his six career outings, including both of his efforts at Thistledown. He'll be jockeyed by the aforementioned Corrales. Candy Exchange (7/2) has won three of his last six and is also a two-time winner at this track. Jack Be Fast (3/1) has won his only two races this year and must be considered, as well.
