Lone Star Park Horse Racing Picks for Monday 6/8/20

Lone Star Park has 10 races slated for today. Which horses should you bet on at FanDuel Racing?

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 2:35 p.m. EST today, we have 10 races at Lone Star Park. Using our projections as a guide, here's a look at some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

(I will be referencing Equibase's Speed Figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions)

Awesome Galaxy, Race 1 (2:35 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 12/1

The first race will be a maiden special weight that will feature a number of horses with very little track record. One of those is Awesome Galaxy, who has raced just once -- a ninth-place finish in 2019. Though each of them were 4 furlongs or fewer, the filly has worked out three times at this track since mid-May, faring quite well in each of the three. If she can duplicate those results at 5 furlongs, she'll be in play for the win.

Betting favorite Mom's Pass (7/5) is also numberFire's top pick. The filly had posted impressive Speed Figures in her two 2020 races, both coming in February. She'll be jockeyed by Stewart Elliott, who has had more success here so far in 2020 than any other rider. Her recent workouts have left a bit to be desired. Scattered Mist (4/1) hasn't raced in over a year but certainly has the ability to be in the mix. Funky Justice (30/1) and Slingshotslew (8/1) both could surprise.

Heat Flash, Race 5 (4:43 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 7/2

The last time we saw Heat Flash, he finished first at an October race in Remington Park, posting a Speed score of 91. The gelding had a couple of workouts here in May, ranking well in both. He has won two out of three races at this venue and is no stranger to this distance. His jockey -- David Cabrera -- has placed top-three in 63 percent of his races this year.

Betting favorite Matrooh (6/5) has done the following in his last seven races: win, place, win, win, show, seventh, show. Pretty impressive. The gelding reached Figures of 100-plus in each of the three victories, though his recent two efforts have both been under 90. Vaporman (6/1) has had excellent form of late and merits consideration. numberFire's pick Sonic Boom (3/1) has been up-and-down but has the ability to win by several lengths. Gray Hope (9/2) must be considered, as well.

Code Runner, Race 8 (6:15 PM)

FD Racing Odds: 15/1

Code Runner is an inconsistent colt who has won two of his last five races. His most recent victory in March saw him achieve a Speed Figure of 89. He was in poor form in his last time out in early May, but has had a couple of excellent workouts since. With Stewart Elliott jockeying, this longshot is bound to be in the mix.

numberFire's algorithm likes Caney's Ghost (8/1) to place first in this one. The gelding has raced four times in his career, finishing second, first, first, and first in those efforts. He also reached a speed of 89 in his last outing. Betting favorite Sir Rick (6/5) has won four of his last seven races and has reached figures above 80 in three of his last four. Dr. Forman (12/1) should be thereabouts as well.
