Gulfstream Park Horse Racing Picks for Friday 6/5/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 12:00 p.m. EST, we have nine races at Gulfstream Park. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

Carson City Kid and Peppi, Race 2

FD Racing Odds: 5/2 and 3/1

These two stand out from the crowd in Race 2.

Of the eight horses in the field, three have never run before, according to Timeform, while only one -- Peppi (3/1) -- has as many as two previous races. Peppi got second and fourth in those two outings, both of which have been at this track, with the runner-up finish coming most recently (May 20th). Carson City Kid got second in his lone previous race, which also came at Gulfstream Park.

A boost for Carson City Kid is that he'll be ridden by Emisale Jaramillo, who has a 17% win rate and 39% top-three rate across 392 starts at Gulfstream over the last four months, according to Equibase.

Carson City Kid tops the field in pace rating and speed rating, per DailyHorsePicks.com, while Peppi checks in a close second in speed rating. DHP gives Carson City Kid a race-best 30% chance to win and a 75% chance to at least show. Peppi has a 15% chance to win by DHP's numbers.

I like Carson City Kid to win and Peppi to place.

Tiz Possible Dear, Race 3

FD Racing Odds: 12/1

Tiz Possible Dear (12/1) has some appeal as a long shot in Race 3.

The mare has pretty nice recent form (2-1-4-6-1), with all of those races coming at Gulfstream. DHP has him fourth in the field in pace rating while giving him an above-average speed rating. Jockey Miguel Angel Vasquez has a top-three rate of 36% at Gulfstream in the past four months.

Betting on Tiz Possible Dear to win may be a reach, but our projections have him finishing second.

Red Fog, Race 7

FD Racing Odds: 9/2

Red Fog (9/2) is our pick to win Race 7. After a poor start to the year, the gelding has gone 4-4-2 over his last three, all of which have gone at least one mile -- the length of this outing -- and been at this track.

Jockey Victor Lebron finished in the top three in 29% of his races here the last four months.

DHP is on board with our projections as they also have Red Fog winning, giving him a race-best 25% chance to do so. They hand him 66% odds of getting in the top three.
