Tampa Bay Downs Horse Racing Picks for Friday 5/29/20
With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.
Starting at 12:35 p.m. EST, we have nine races at Tampa Bay Downs. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.
As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.
Completely Bonkers and Reigning Warrior, Race 1
FD Racing Odds: 2/1 and 8/5
numberFire's model, Timeform, and Daily Horse Picks unanimously pick Completely Bonkers and Reigning Warrior to finish first and second, respectively, granting an opportunity to wager on either one to win or pairing the duo in an exacta bet to spice things up.
DHP gives Completely Bonkers a whopping 42% chance of winning, while Reigning Warrior gets 30% odds. They also get 95% and 88% chances, respectively, of finishing top three, with no one else being anywhere close.
Not surprisingly, both geldings have had some strong finishes lately. In 2020, Completely Bonkers has finished top three in three of five races, with a runner-up and two third-place finishes (all at Tampa Bay). Reigning Warrior didn't perform well his last time out, but his 2020 resume is solid, too (5-4-3-2).
Best of all, these two will be assisted by two of the top jockeys at this track in Antonio A. Gallardo (Completely Bonkers) and Angel Suarez (Reigning Warrior), who are top four in earnings dating back to July, per Equibase.
Shanghaisweetheart and Ashlie Nicole, Race 3
FD Racing Odds: 7/2 and 9/2
Race 2 favorite Winning Quality (2/1) has been scratched, opening the door for Shanghaisweetheart and Ashlie Nicole, who were predicted by numberFIre's model to finish second and third behind Winning Quality. DHP likes both horses, too, and actually had Ashlie Nicole with the best win odds even prior to the scratch (24%).
Shanghaisweetheart has been on an absolute tear dating back to December (2-2-1-3-2), and she has a strong jockey in Daniel Centeno, who ranks third in earnings here since July.
Although Ashlie Nicole has only raced once in 2020, she came away with a win at this track in February. She'll also benefit from having the aforementioned Gallardo as her jockey.
Like Race 1, an exacta bet is firmly in play with these two, as well.
Suzie'ssteppinout, Race 7
FD Racing Odds: 7/2
numberFire and Timeform pick Suzie'ssteppinout to win Race 7 over favorite Proposition (5/2). DHP likes both fillies about equally, giving each roughly a 30% chance of victory, but we're getting slightly more betting value from Suzie'ssteppinout.
It's sure hard to argue with Suzie'ssteppinout's track record, as she was a beast in 2019, cracking the top three in 14 of 17 races, including 5 wins and 7 runner-ups. She's maintained that momentum in 2020 (2-1-3-4-2) and will have a solid jockey in Ronald Dale Allen Jr.
