Fonner Park Horse Racing Picks for Wednesday 5/27/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 5 p.m. EST today, we have nine races at Fonner Park. Using our projections as a guide, here's a look at some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

(I will be referencing Equibase's Speed Figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions)

Irish Contessa, Race 1

FD Racing Odds: 7/2

Our models project Irish Contessa to place third, but I like her odds of winning this. The filly has raced three times at Fonner in 2020, posting finishes of first, third, and second -- her Speed Figures have been 73, 60, and 74. That's a sign of good form. Her jockey today -- Armando Martinez -- ranks first in win percentage and a top-three percentage among the field.

Though she's not the betting favorite, numberFire's models like Ryrysweetie (3/1) to win the first race of the day. The mare has won consecutive races and has posted five top-three finishes in six races at Fonner in 2020. Shehas achieved Speed Figures of 68 and 77 in her last two efforts, respectively. In fact, her Figures have increased in three consecutive outings. It's hard to fade betting favorite Moonfield (5/2) in this one, especially given the filly's recent form. A Kiss Goodnight (6/1) is also worth considering.

Radicator, Race 2

FD Racing Odds: 12/1

Radicator is one of my favorite longshot picks of the day, at 12/1 -- the lowest odds of any horse in Race 2. The gelding is coming off a first place finish two weeks ago where he posted a Speed Figure of 65. His jockey at the time? The aforementioned Armando Martinez. The Figure of 65 was Radicator's second of 60-plus in his last three efforts.

Flanagan (5/2) is both the betting favorite and numberFire's pick. He's raced 10 times in his career but hasn't finished first since his debut. The gelding does have Figures of 56 and 64 in his last two, showing good form. Superserg (10/1) is another longshot worth thinking about.

Dirty Dixie Road, Race 4

FD Racing Odds: 3/1

numberFire's algorithm likes Dirty Dixie Road to win the fourth race of the day at Fonner. The mare is coming off a first place effort two weeks ago and has placed top-three in each of her last three. She's posted Speed Figures above 60 in four of her last five, including one of 72 in her win. She'll be jockeyed by Jake L. Olesiak, who has placed top-three 52 percent of the time since February.

Personal Cat (4/1) has also posted three straight top-three finishes, with average Figures of 66 in those outings. Betting favorite Dorothe Marie (5/2) hasn't placed first in close to a year, but her recent form has been trending in the right direction. Intoxicating Kiss (6/1) has been up-and-down, but is definitely capable of placing well in this one.

Judge On the Run, Race 6

FD Racing Odds: 7/2

Judge On the Run is numberFire's pick to win Race 6, and it seems like a smart bet. The mare finished first here at Fonner two weeks ago, her third win in six races. She's posted Speed Figures above 70 in five of her last seven. She's got the form and the jockey (Olesiak) to boot.

Ubetcha Ima Bumper (9/2) has been inconsistent at best, but she's shown the ability to have success here. Chamber Doors (5/2) is the betting favorite and should place well in this race.

Saygoodnightgracie, Race 7

FD Racing Odds: 4/1

Our models project Saygoodnightgracie for a third place finish, but I could see the filly winning this one. In her four races in 2020, she has finished first, first, second, and first. She's posted a Speed figure of 60-plus in each of them, with an average of 67.

Meanwhile, Shimmering Dream (12/1) is numberFire's pick to win, despite having the third-lowest odds in the field. The mare has seen her Figures rise in three straight. I'd be shocked if betting favorite Star Hunter (5/2) doesn't finish inside the top-three, given her recent form.
