Fonner Park Horse Racing Picks for Tuesday 5/19/20

With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.

Starting at 5 p.m. EST today, we have eight races at Fonner Park. Using our projections as a guide, here's a look at some of the best bets.

As always, keep an eye out for scratches and changes.

(I will be referencing Equibase's Speed Figure, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions)

Pete and Repete, Race 1

FD Racing Odds: 5/1

Pete and Repete has the fifth-longest odds in this six-runner race, yet I like his odds of placing well ahead of expectations. The gelding has seen his form improve in four consecutive races, including a win here exactly one week ago. He's finished top-three in each of his three efforts in 2020, all at Fonner Park.

Gogetmbugs (3/1) ran very well in his last time out here at Fonner two weeks ago, placing second. She should be one of your top picks. Mr. Big Shot (5/2) is the betting favorite, but his recent form makes him a bit more questionable.

Giant Gamble, Race 2

FD Racing Odds: 5/2

Not exactly bold, as Giant Gamble is both our model's top pick and the betting favorite, but his recent form makes him impossible to ignore. The gelding has raced five times at Fonner in 2020, placing top-three each time -- including four straight top-two finishes. He's had a speed figure of 65 or better in 11 straight efforts.

Xavier Davey's (8/1) form is also trending in the right direction. He's coming off a first-place finish here a month ago where he achieved a Speed Figure of 68. Frankalee Fun (6/1) is in the same boat -- improving form and worthy of consideration.

Coil and Strike, Race 3

FD Racing Odds: 5/2

Another betting favorite, Coil and Strike is also our model's projected winner. She's raced three times at Fonner in 2020, with her most recent two looking very solid, resulting in Figures of 44 and 42, respectively. The filly has yet to place first, but this is as good a time as any.

Gaby Vee (6/1) hasn't placed higher than third in over a year, but her recent form makes her a worthwhile play. Super Miss B Haven (3/1) is also racing well enough recently to post a good finish here.

Gone Preachin, Race 5

FD Racing Odds: 9/2

numberFire's algorithm has Gone Preachin placing second, but I like his odds of coming up with the win. The gelding has had improving Speed Figures in an intriguing five consecutive efforts, including three straight of 80-plus. In six outings at Fonner in 2020, he has placed top-three five times. This is a good spot for the eight-year-old.

Speaking of form, both Macandales (8/1) and Shepherd's Pride (6/1) have it in them to place well in Race 5. Both have had Figures in the mid-70s this year.

Scooter's Boy, Race 7

FD Racing Odds: 5/2

Scooter's Boy has been on absolute fire as of late and is worth a play despite being the betting favorite. The gelding has raced at Fonner four times in 2020 and has finished first, first, first and first -- in case you didn't know, first is good. Equally as impressive, his Speed Figure improved in each of those efforts, including a score of 100 in his most recent outing. That form is just too hard to pass up on.

If anyone's going to beat Scooter's Boy, it's going to be Ourbestfriend D L (3/1). The gelding has had three outings at Fonner in 2020, finishing second twice and first once. His Figures in those three have been 92, 100, and 99, in that order. That's impressive, especially considering that he hadn't even reached 90 in any of his 18 career races prior to those. Our model likes Executive Decree (6/1) in this race, and it certainly adds up. He's had Speed Figures of 99 or better in four of his last seven outings. It's worth noting that none of those occurred at Fonner.
