Fonner Park Horse Racing Picks for Monday 5/11/20
With most of the sports world on pause, it's a great time to dive into horse racing, and FanDuel Racing gives you the chance to do just that.
Starting at 5 p.m. EST today, we have eight races at Fonner Park. Using our projections as a guide, here are some of the best bets.
Thunder Box, Race 6
FD Racing Odds: 6/1
Our models have Thunder Box (6/1) winning his first race in 2020.
The four-year-old gelding has raced five times at Fonner Park, finishing second, second, fourth, seventh, and third, in that order. The seventh-place finish was the only race that was not six furlongs -- which happens to be the distance of Race 6.
Thunder Box has had a top-three finish in 13 of its 19 races on dirt, though just one of those 13 was in first place.
Our models project him to get his second first-place win, despite three horses coming in with better odds.
Ohtani, Race 5
FD Racing Odds: 8/1
Ohtani (8/1) looks like a great value play in Race 5.
Ohtani is coming off a first-place finish at Fonner Park 13 days ago in a race that was half-a-furlong longer. In his 17 career races on dirt, Ohtani has had six top-three finishes (35.3%), including three in first place.
The four-year-old has just the fifth-best odds of nine horses, but our models like him to pull off the upset. Minefield (10/1) is projected to post a second-place finish in this race.
Doby, Race 7
FD Racing Odds: 9/2
Despite having 18.18 percent implied odds of coming in first -- third-best among the nine horses -- our models like Doby (9/2) to come away victorious.
Doby has raced twice at Fonner Park, posting a second-place finish in his only six-furlong outing here. The four-year-old already has a first-place finish in 2020, in a race where his implied odds were much lower than they are today.
Doby has placed inside the top three in 8 of his 12 career dirt races -- that includes six top-two finishes.
Our algorithm has Unshackled Cross (8/1) coming in second.
Miss Elise, Race 3
FD Racing Odds: 3/1
Miss Elise (3/1) comes in with 25 percent implied odds of a first-place finish in Race 3.
The mare has raced six times at Fonner Park, placing sixth, second, third, first, fourth, and second, in that order. That's four top-three finishes, for those keeping track at home.
Our models like the five-year-old to come away with her second first-place finish here.
Bee Merry (8/1) is our projected second-place finisher.
