4 FanDuel Premier League Studs to Target for Matchweek 5

Tottenham are a commanding favorite for their home matchup with Swansea, making Harry Kane a superb play. Which other high-priced players are worth checking out?

As is the case when playing any sport on FanDuel, it’s imperative to hit on high-priced studs, the players in which you’ve made the biggest investment. This is especially true with strikers in soccer as goals are often the difference between winning and losing in DFS.

Let’s take a look at some high-priced players -- all across the pitch -- who, despite costing a good chunk of change, are worth the investment.

This article is geared toward FanDuel's main slate, which begins at 10 a.m. EST Saturday and features six matches.

Matchweek 5
Saturday, September 16th
Leicester City at Huddersfield
Burnley at Liverpool
Stoke at Newcastle
Manchester City at Watford
West Ham at West Brom
Swansea City at Tottenham

Let's get to it.

Forward

Harry Kane, Tottenham

FanDuel Price: $12,000

Oddsmakers are expecting goals on this slate, with three matches installed with a 3.0-goal over/under. Two of those matches feature 1.5-goal favorites in Manchester City and Liverpool, but Tottenham are the clear team to hone in on this week as Spurs are a massive 2.0-goal home favorite for their date with Swansea City.

Tottenham is in such a dreamy spot that Harry Kane is likely to see tons of ownership, but it's hard to justify fading him. He's coming off a two-goal outing in Wednesday's Champions League match with Dortmund, and Kane has bagged two goals in four league matches this season after scoring 29, 25 and 21, respectively, over the past three EPL campaigns.

Swansea is a great matchup as they have allowed the second-most shots per game (19.5) in the Premier League this year, and the Swans conceded 70 goals in 38 matches a season ago.

In large-field tournaments, you can make a case for fading Kane due to his likely sky-high ownership, with Spurs midfield teammates Son Heung-Min ($7,500), Dele Alli ($10,500) and Christian Eriksen ($11,500) all serving as appealing pivot options who can get you access to Tottenham's 2.5-goal implied total. But it's goals we want, and per bet365, Kane has -- by far -- the best odds to score in this match.

Midfielder

Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool

FanDuel Price: $9,500

If you fade Kane in a forward spot, then you'll need to get exposure to Tottenham here. If you roster Kane, then midfield is a great place to dip your toes into Liverpool and Manchester City, the slate's other two big favorites.

City's Kevin De Bruyne ($10,500) and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah ($10,500) have both been in fine form this season, but with the Reds a 1.5-goal favorite at Anfield, it's hard to pass up getting Coutinho at this price.

Coutinho -- who scored 13 goals with 7 assists in 28 EPL starts last year -- has yet to start a match this season, with his summer transfer saga keeping him out of the squad until September. But he came on as a sub in Matchweek 4, and he entered late in Wednesday's Champions League clash with Sevilla.

He appears to be inching his way back into the team, and with Sadio Mane suspended, the path is cleared for Coutinho to make his debut in the starting XI, though it's certainly worth checking team sheets when they are announced.

Burnley aren't a bad side, but Liverpool should control this one. Last season, the Clarets were next to last in possession (42.7%) while allowing the second-most (17.7) shots per match. So far in 2017-18, Burley are 16th in possession (45.4%), and they're allowing the most shots per match (19.5).

Defender

Ben Mee, Burnley

FanDuel Price: $7,500

Sticking with the Liverpool-Burnley fixture, Mee should have ample opportunity to rack up defensive statistics in this one.

For the season, Mee is averaging 25.1 FanDuel points per match, and he's totaled at least 22.5 FanDuel points in three of his four outings. He gets almost all of his fantasy production from defensive actions, posting per-game averages of 9.3 clearances, 1.8 interceptions and 32.8 passes per match this season.

When playing at Anfield, Liverpool have been a blistering bunch, firing off 20.5 shots per match. The Reds should have Mee and the rest of Burnley's back-line pinned deep for the majority of Saturday's affair.

Goalie

Kasper Schmeichel, Leicester City

FanDuel Price: $5,000

Schmeichel has a solid road matchup at Huddersfield, and both teams in this fixture are tied for the lowest implied total on the slate (1.25 goals).

Huddersfield is off to a flying start in their first EPL season, taking seven points from their first four matches, but the Terriers have done it without packing much of an offensive punch, averaging one goal per game so far. That puts a clean sheet into play for Schmeichel, and with Leicester surrendering the fourth-most shots per match (17.5) -- granted the Foxes have had a pretty tough schedule thus far -- he has a safe floor, too.

If it's safety you want rather than reaching for a clean sheet, you can target Watford's Heurelho Gomes ($5,500) or Swansea's Lukasz Fabianski ($5,000), both of whom should be called on for a plethora of saves in their respective matches.
