Gio's value you with Hill there?
How nervous are you guys about Jeremy Hill cutting into Gio Bernard's value. Consensus seems to be that Hill is more of a between the tackles guy and I'm worried he might vulture a lot away from my second round pick (10 team, standard scoring). It is to the point where I'm considering trying to put a package together to make a trade before week one, after which, if his number of touches is damaged, it may well be apparent.
I'm looking at maybe trying to jump up from Gio to a top ten ranked guy by packaging him with a wideout or something. (I do like consolidating strength with a trade before the seasons starts, because I like to have a bench spot to mess around with on waivers)
Hue Jackson, before Jeremy Hill was even drafted, was very bullish on using Giovani Bernard a lot more this season. Nothing has really materialized that makes it seem like that's going to change.
Giovani Bernard scored 5 rushing TDs last year...4 of those came from within the 10-yard line, and that was with the same narrative of "BJGE will get all the goal line touches" in play last year...so I'm not inclined to freak out about his TD potential.
Jeremy Hill's ridiculous preseason performance against the Colts was with ZERO starters playing for either team for the ENTIRE game. I'm throwing that game out in terms of thinking it represents anything close to how the regular season will be. I would look more to the "dress-rehearsal" game against the Cardinals, where Bernard got 11 touches in the first half, which is wonderful, and even more wonderful...Jackson didn't give up on giving him the ball even when he was struggling. That's one of his trademarks, and one of the biggest knocks against Gruden...the run game will not be abandoned.
I think Giovani Bernard will be just fine. I panicked too at first, as the preseason wore on, but ultimately I think there is nothing to worry about.
