PPR Approach - Top WR over Lacy, Bell, Murray, etc.
I've already drafted in several PPR leagues, and unfortunately I always seem to miss out on the top 4 RB's. I'm not sold on the others (Lacy, Bell, Murray, etc.) even though I think they will have great weeks. So, I've been going with an approach that typically includes a top 3 WR and pairing them with Ellington and Bush/Bell. Am I putting too much emphasis on these RB's? Obviously, the Detroit combo could be rough. Thanks.

I had the pick of death in a keeper league this year (#7). I kept Demaryius. I had the opportunity to take demarco, stacy, etc and I went with Dez instead. I made a mistake on the turnaround and took Ellington (essentially the 3rd round) instead of Brees, Julio, Demarco and stacy again and alshon, because i panicked and figured I needed a RB. I know this isn't true and you shouldn't take a RB just to take one, which I do every year, but at #7 I felt trapped. I won a 16 team league last year with BMarsh, AJ Green as my studs and fred jackson and ryan matthews as my RBs. You can do anything that works for you, just take the best available (which I'm currently regretting not doing).

True true. That DD wr lineup looks good though.Ellington actually has EXTENSIVE injury history. battled them all thru college, after seasons, pre combine, traning camp and a a little last year too. Evan silva talks about it herehttp://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nfl/48156/139/the-shy-away-top-40) Hope you grabbed a couple RB's but yea, what ya gonna do man. Watch that waiver like a hawk son....

no solid RB1s, but hopefully some high upside RB1.5/2 that can somewhat compliment my WR beasts

Yea, new coaching staff there so it's not sure how bush will be used. Bell will get the rushing duties though and according to Numberfires NEP, bell was actually a more efficient pass catcher than bush. They also now have rookie theo riddick who I remember getting lot's of praise at start of camp and they want to let him touch the ball a couple times a games and his best skills are receiving (another red flag for bush).

I like bell as an above average RB2 though.

I personally feel quite confident with Lacy, and think that ellignton is the risky pick(small back, never had full workload, attempted to put on muscle in offseason because he knows he gets his ass whooped all game which might make him slower) but it's your team so it's your call.

Lacy is supposed to start catching passes this year (2-2, 22 yards in one scoring drive last game) and gets goal line touches in a top 5 offfense this year. Kids got a good head on his shoulders (grew up in poverty, hit by hurricane katrina) but always kept working hard to help his famiiy. I think he is a safe elite RB to start your team off with and than load up on wr's later. Cobb, jeffery, marshall or Nelson will probly slip to you in round two and they aren't too far behind the Demaryius

Hope this helps, good luck brother

There isn't really a wrong strategy for drafting. If you aren't comfortable with Lacy or Murray, take Calvin, Thomas, or Graham! Especially in a PPR league you'd be fine. I personally usually go with a RB with my first pick, but that's what I'm comfortable with. I think Ellington and Joique Bell would do perfectly fine for you. I definitely think Bell is better than Bush this year. Bell seems to do everything that we believe Bush does better (Bell had only one less catch than Bush last year with less playing time) and they have come out and said that Bell will have a much greater role this year, and I think you'll begin to see Bush take a backseat, much like he did on the Saints.

I've been drafting Bell in nearly every league this year. It will either crush me or carry me a long way.

When are you drafting your first RB? I've been employing a similar strategy in my PPR drafts. I'm going WR-WR-TE (or any combination of the three depending on draft position and how draft goes) to start to secure two elite WRs and an elite TE, then going for PPR or lower tier backs in the middle rounds. If I miss out on an elite RB, I feel like that's the strategy that gives me the best competitive advantage in PPR.

I thought about going TE in the third, but D. Thomas is usually always gone by that time so I typically wait.
