Who has the better pitching staff - the Tigers or the A's?
They're both pretty all right, I guess, but which is best?

If Verlander was Verlander, I'd go with Detroit. I'm saying Oakland though for now.

Detroit...and it's not as close as some people make it.

The Tigers have 3 Cy Young winners (the good kind, not the flukey RA Dickey kind). Then there's Anibal Sanchez (multiple solid seasons under his belt) and Porcello (former 1st rounder).

The A's have Gray (an unproven, albeit superstar-potential, talent), Lester (mostly good, but not great or consistent over his career), Kazmir (the guy pitched for the Sugar Land Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League to begin 2013, and had only one good season in an otherwise disappointing career), Sharky (who's career is about on par with the Tigers' Sanchez), and plug in a #5.

Problem with pointing out the three Cy Young's is that past success really has little bearing on this year. I don't think anyone would argue Verlander over Lester or Gray right now, and neither of them have won a Cy Young. Gray just won pitcher of the month. That sounds pretty proven to me.

    True...so let's stick with what we have. Detroit: 1) Price (Cy Young candidate THIS year); 2) Scherzer (3.24 ERA, 1.2 WHIP, 13 W, 10.1 K/9); 3) Sanchez (3.37 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, .615 W%); Porcello (3.18 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 13 W); then that Verlander bum. I'm sticking with Detroit.

I'm from Detroit so I'll say the Tigers but the A's is pretty darn good.

Yeah, it's Detroit. I'm a Sox fan and I love Jon Lester but Price > Lester, Scherzer > Gray, and the rest is probably pretty even. And if you want to say Gray and Kazmir deserve more credit, that's fine. I have concerns over their durability come playoff time for a 2nd year SP and, well, Scott Kazmir.
