Cowboys inform Brandon Weeden that Matt Cassel will start
The Dallas Cowboys have informed quarterback Brandon Weeden that he has been benched in favor of Matt Cassel, according to Ed Werder of ESPN.
Cassel came over from the Buffalo Bills via trade after starter Tony Romo went down with an injury. The Cowboys are on a bye in Week 6, meaning Cassel will start in Week 7. Romo is eligible to return in Week 11.
Weeden is currently 26th in Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play among the 36 quarterbacks with at least 50 drop backs. Cassel wasn't a model of efficiency himself last year, either, finishing 41st in Passing NEP per play among 48 quarterbacks with at least 75 drop backs. He will try to simply minimize the damage until Romo's return.
