Vernon Davis ruled out for 49ers' Week 5
Vernon Davis (knee) has been ruled out for the San Francisco 49ers' Week 5 against the New York Giants.
Davis will miss his second straight week of play. He practiced on a limited basis this week, but finds himself on the sideline. Garrett Celek gets the start against a Giants' defense that has given up a total of 15 receptions for 207 yards to tight ends in the past two weeks.
Celek ranks 27th in Reception Net Expected Points (NEP) among tight ends with at least 10 targets this year, and 23rd in per-play Reception NEP. Davis ranks 20th and 14th in these metrics, respectively.
