Steelers' Ryan Shazier (back) has begun walking
Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Ryan Shazier (back surgery) has begun walking.
Shazier suffered a career-threatening spine injury in the team's Week 13 game, and was finally released from the hospital Thursday. According to an ESPN source, the linebacker is making "incredible progress," and regaining movement in his legs and already being able to walk is great news for his long-term health. Per Adam Schefter, though, the next three to six months will be pivotal in Shazier's recovery for his playing career.
Prior to his injury, Shazier totaled 89 tackles, three interceptions, and 10 passes defended in 12 games this season. He helped the Steelers defense to a 15th-place showing in opponent-adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) per play this year.
