Rams' Todd Gurley named Offensive Player of the Year

Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley has been named the Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

What It Means:

Gurley becomes the third running back to win the award in the last 10 years, joining Adrian Peterson (2012) and DeMarco Murray (2014). He beat out Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for the award.

Gurley put up big numbers both on the ground, with 1305 yards and 13 touchdowns on 279 carries, as well as through the air, with 788 yards and 6 touchdowns on 64 receptions. His 0.04 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per carry ranked top-10 among backs with at least 50 carries on the year, while he also ranked top-five in Reception NEP per target (minimum 20 targets).
