Cowboys' owner: Joseph Randle was not benched

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a radio interview that running back Joseph Randle was not benched after almost fumbling at the goal line.

What It Means:

"We did not bench him," Jones said. "We just wanted [Darren] McFadden in there at that time. Seriously, it was not a bench." This contradicts what head coach Jason Garrett said on Monday, but both agree that the play will not "impact who starts out the game" in Week 5. Randle should remain the lead back, but he is not locked-in for the long-term.

Randle has accumulated a -3.03 Rushing Net Expected Points score on 59 carries, for a -0.05 per-play score that ranks tied for 33rd among backs with 20 opportunities or more. He's actually been outplayed by McFadden, whose -0.02 per-play Rushing NEP ranks 28th among these backs. A change isn't imminent, but it's not out of the question if Randle's ball security doesn't improve.
