Jay Gruden wants Washington to identify long-term answer at quarterback
Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden suggested he wants the final decision on quarterback Kirk Cousins' long-term future to be made this offseason.
“I think something has to be done,†Gruden stated. “I personally don’t want to go through another one-year deal, and just [keep going] one year, one year. I think you want to have a quarterback in here that’s going to be here. And hopefully that is Kirk, and if not, we have to move on and do what we have to do as an organization." Cousins has played under the franchise tag each of the past two seasons, and while it seems unlikely, Washington could make it happen a third time in 2018. However, Gruden is making it clear he would prefer the team inks the quarterback to a long-term deal.
Cousins averaged 18.2 FanDuel points per game this season, with 4,093 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He also added 179 rushing yards and 4 scores on the ground.
