Chiefs reportedly open to trading Alex Smith this offseason
The Kansas City Chiefs are open to trading quarterback Alex Smith during the offseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Ever since Kansas City traded up to draft Patrick Mahomes, there has been a lot of buzz about the quarterback situation in Kansas City. Smith, at 33, is due $14.5 million and $2.5 million in bonuses next season. Meanwhile, Mahomes has impressed coaches and opposing defenders with what little playing time he's gotten in the preseason and in a start in Week 17.
In 15 starts, Smith threw for 4,042 pass yards, 26 touchdowns and 5 interceptions this season. He's projected for 258.7 yards, 1.64 touchdowns and an additional 25.7 yards on the ground in Saturday's Wild Card matchup against the Tennessee Titans.
