Antonio Gates

Antonio Gates' future uncertain with Chargers

Los Angeles Chargers general manager Tom Telesco suggested that the team is uncertain about the future of tight end Antonio Gates.

What It Means:

On Thursday, Telesco said, "We'll probably let some time go a little bit after the season. I'll sit down with Antonio and just kind of talk to him and see what his thoughts are, what he's thinking and see where our thoughts are and what we're thinking." Gates wants to return, but it's a question of whether the team wants to retain him, and at what cost. The 37-year-old is a free agent and 23-year-old Hunter Henry is pushing to be the team's everyday starter next season.

In 16 games, Gates tallied 30 catches, 316 yards and 3 touchdowns on 52 targets this season. For the first time since 2010-11, Gates saw fewer than 80 targets. He played on 10 games that season.
