Chargers' Antonio Gates will set tight end touchdown record with first score of 2017
37-year-old Los Angeles Chargers tight end Antonio Gates is currently tied with Tony Gonzalez for the most career touchdowns by a tight end in NFL history.
Gates has 111 career touchdowns, and assuming he gets his 112th at some point this season, he will stand alone with the most scores by a tight end in the history of the game. The veteran saw 93 targets in his 14th NFL season last year, though the expectation is for that number to drop significantly, as 22-year-old Hunter Henry takes over as the more explosive tight end in the Chargers' offense.
We project Gates to score 4.3 touchdowns in 2017, which would secure him the tight end record and then some, plus 44.8 receptions and 514.8 receiving yards for the year.
