Giants' left tackle Ereck Flowers having rough camp

New York Giants left tackle Ereck Flowers had a rough practice on Monday, ESPN reporter Jordan Raanan reports.

What It Means:

Raanan writes Flowers had "five or six awful reps" which "several ex-NFL offensive linemen and some independent offensive line coaches" agreed were "brutal." One of them said the session was the, "Worst I’ve seen, period." The practice is not an aberration, either, as Flowers has consistently struggled throughout camp. The Giants bet on Flowers improving this offseason, but it looks like pass protection on the left side will once again be a huge area of concern.

Manning was surprisingly sacked just 21 times on 619 drop backs in 2016, a rate of 3.39 percent. Under constant pressure, though, he turned in 0.06 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back, just the 24th-best rate in that metric among 39 quarterbacks to drop back at least 100 times last year.
