Robert Griffin III

Redskins will keep Robert Griffin on active roster

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is going to keep his roster spot, NFL Network's Jeff Darlington reports.

What It Means:

The Washington Post also expects Griffin to stick on the team. The Redskins are taking a financial risk by retaining Griffin. His $16.155 million fifth-year option is guaranteed for injury only, meaning he has to be able to pass a physical when the Redskins decide to release him next offseason. Griffin was examined by an independent neurologist late this week, but neither he nor the team have been given the results of that exam.

Colt McCoy is also surviving the cut. McCoy finished 20th in Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play last year among the 48 quarterbacks who recorded at least 75 dropbacks. Cousins was 18th in the category while Griffin was 45th. The team as a whole was 25th in our schedule-adjusted Passing NEP per play.
