Joique Bell to remain Lions' number one running back
Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell is currently viewed as the number one running back in the Lions backfield, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.
Bell received all first-team reps during practice Monday immediately after being activated from the physically unable to perform list. Bell has not played this preseason due to knee and ankle injuries. Ameer Abdullah and Zach Zenner will see more carries if Bell struggles to start the season.
The Lions ranked 19th in our schedule-adjusted Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) metric last season. Bell ranked 22nd out of 43 running backs with at least 100 carries with a -0.03 Rushing NEP per carry last year. Our algorithms project Bell to finish the year with 652 rushing yards, 5 rushing touchdowns, 34 receptions, 313 receiving yards, and 1 receiving touchdown.
