Josh McCown may lose starting job before Jets' Week 1
New York Jets quarterback Josh McCown is not guaranteed to be the Week 1 starter, ESPN's Rich Cimini believes.
The New York Post shared a similar sentiment in mid-June, and it's not the first time Cimini has questioned if McCown will be the starter. A 38-year-old journeyman who is always hurt and only sporadically effective, McCown certainly shouldn't be gifted starting duties. The problem is the ineptness of the young quarterbacks behind him. Christian Hackenberg isn't a legitimate NFL prospect and Bryce Petty isn't much better. McCown is the favorite, but won't come close to making 16 starts.
Our models project McCown to start for the majority of the 2017 season, racking up 3,333 passing yards, 18.11 touchdowns, and 13.63 interceptions on 526 passing attempts.
