Report: Washington to start Kirk Cousins in Week 1
ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini reports the Washington Redskins plan to start Kirk Cousins in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins.
Robert Griffin III has been terrible for the last two years, and that's when he can even get on the field. His injuries over the past two seasons have piled up, from his torn knee ligaments in the 2012 playoffs to now a concussion in this preseason. It's time for Washington to move on, and it appears they're giving Cousins the first chance to take the job.
Cousins fared fairly admirably in his spot starts and relief action in 2014, compiling an 18th-best per-play Passing Net Expected Points mark among quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs. He obviously doesn't bring the kind of rushing versatility to the table that Griffin does, but he's an above-average pocket passer. That should mesh nicely with head coach Jay Gruden's offense.
