Huntry Henry expected to be the Chargers' top tight end
Los Angeles Chargers tight end Hunter Henry is expected to be the team's "main tight end" this season, per ESPN Chargers reporter Eric Williams.
What It Means:
Being the "main tight end" doesn't guarantee that he will be the top weapon at the position in the passing game, and even in this situation that Williams expects to play out, he has Gates seeing the bulk of the third down and red zone work. Henry may be the tight end of the future for the Chargers, but Gates will maintain a role in the passing game as long as he's on the field.
Henry had a very efficient rookie season, and his 0.93 Reception Net Expected Points (NEP) per target ranked second among the 33 tight ends that saw at least 50 targets on the year. Gates ranked 15th in the group with 0.66 Reception NEP per target.
