Jamaal Charles

Jamaal Charles no lock for Broncos' final roster

Denver Broncos running back Jamaal Charles' chances of making the 53-man roster are at "50-50," 9 News Denver's Mike Klis believes.

What It Means:

Charles signed a low-guarantee, one-year, incentive-laden deal with Denver, so this absolutely makes sense. Charles is coming off multiple knee surgeries and setbacks and turns 31 later this year. If he can prove he's healthy, which is a big "if," then Charles won't have a problem cracking the Week 1 roster, but Denver has plenty of backfield options.

Charles has attempted just 83 rushing attempts over the last two years, but that's come with 0.08 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per carry over that span of time. That would have been top-10 in the NFL in 2016 among the 54 backs with 80 or more carries. The Broncos, meanwhile, finished fourth-worst in the league last year in terms of Adjusted Offensive Rushing NEP per play.
