Doug Martin

Doug Martin's progress heartening to Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are "happy with" running back Doug Martin's (suspended) "trajectory" this offseason, general manager Jason Licht said.

What It Means:

"I’ve said that before but it’s the truth," Licht continued. "He has the right mindset right now and he looks good physically." Tampa Bay has bypassed the running back position thus far in the draft, which does not mean they will avoid the position entirely on Day 3, but it is looking more and more likely Martin will remain in Tampa Bay this season.

Among the 42 running backs with at least 100 rushing attempts this year, Martin's -0.20 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt ranked second-worst. His career-worst Rushing NEP per attempt prior to 2016 was -0.10 during the 2013 season.
