Gerald Everett aids Rams offense at 44th overall

The Los Angeles Rams selected South Alabama tight end Gerald Everett with the 44th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

What It Means:

Everett played basketball for most of his high school career and didn't have a huge football pedigree; he spent 2012-2013 at a community college, 2014 at UAB, and his final two seasons at small-school South Alabama. Everett has big-time athleticism with 4.62 speed and a 37 1/2" vertical, long arms (33"), and rare vertical ability for a tight end. Everett was also a better blocker than expected on tape. He's still raw but can offer matchup-nightmare potential in the middle of the field. Head coach Sean McVay has used the tight end to major success before while coaching Jordan Reed in Washington. Tyler Higbee's sleeper appeal just took a pretty big hit.

Everett earned first-team All-Sun Belt in both years at South Alabama, posting 1,212 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 90 catches over his two years there.
