Gary Barnidge cut by Browns
The Cleveland Browns released tight end Gary Barnidge.
The Browns selected Miami tight end David Njoku with the 29th overall pick on Thursday, sealing Barnidge's fate. Barnidge broke out at age 29 in 2015, leading Cleveland with 1,043 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. His production tailed off dramatically in 2016, but a lot of that might have been due to Cleveland's quarterback issues.
Barnidge's 0.68 Reception Net Expected Points per target in 2016 was 17th-best among the 43 tight ends to top 30 targets that year.
