Texans trade up to the 12th pick for Deshaun Watson
The Houston Texans traded up with the Cleveland Browns to select Clemson Tigers quarterback Deshaun Watson with the 12th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
The Texans gave up the 25th pick in the draft and their 2018 first-round pick to move up and select Watson. An exceptional athlete, the quarterback twice won the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's best quarterback and led the Tigers to the National Championship last season. Watson will be given a fair shot to compete with Tom Savage as the Texans starting quarterback to open the season and has the best chance to receive extensive playing time as a rookie.
Watson completed 388 of 579 pass attempts in 2016 for 4,593 yards, 41 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He also rushed for 625 yards and nine touchdowns last season.
