Kansas City moves up to the 10th spot to take Patrick Mahomes
The Kansas City Chiefs traded up with the Buffalo Bills to select Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Patrick Mahomes with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
The Chiefs gave up picks 27 and 91 in this year's draft, along with their first-round pick in 2018 to move up and take Mahomes. The former Red Raider quarterback has a cannon arm and possesses the intelligence to succeed at the NFL level. The real question will be if he competes with Alex Smith for the starting job in 2017 or holds a clipboard and learns the position from Smith and head coach Andy Reid.
Mahomes completed 63.2 percent of his passes in his three seasons at Texas Tech for 11,252 yards and 93 touchdowns to go along with 29 interceptions.
