Sammie Coates isn't a lock to make Steelers' roster
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Sammie Coates is "on notice" and competing for a job with Justin Hunter following the reinstatement of Martavis Bryant, reports ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Coates was bothered by a hand injury over the second half of the season, but his 2016 was marred by drops, inconsistency and general disappointment. Hunter is also a top-tier physical talent who has failed to live up to his potential, but he's easily in the best situation of his career now playing in Pittsburgh with Ben Roethlisberger.
Among the 95 receivers to see at least 45 targets this season, Coates managed to finish 20th in Reception Net Expected Points per target. His 42.8 percent catch rate (21-of-49 targets) was fourth-worst in that group.
