Vikings out on free agent Adrian Peterson

The Minnesota Vikings will not be re-signing free agent running back Adrian Peterson, general manager Rick Spielman confirmed on Thursday.

What It Means:

"With us signing (Latavius) Murray, Adrian will move on elsewhere," Spielman said. The 7th overall pick of the 2007 draft, Peterson averaged 4.85 yards on his 2,418 Vikings carries. He tallied seven 1,000-yard seasons, including the second-best rushing campaign of all time in 2012 (2,097). Five days shy of his 32nd birthday, Peterson has drawn scant interest in free agency, visiting only the Seattle Seahawks. One-dimensional for this day and age, Peterson is coming off a season lost to injury and likely seeking too much money.

There were 88 running backs to notch at least 30 rushing attempts last year. Peterson earned -0.39 Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt, by far the worst rate among that group.
