Latavius Murray lands with Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings signed running back Latavius Murray, formerly of the Oakland Raiders, to a three-year contract.

What It Means:

The Adrian Peterson era is now officially over in Minnesota. Murray doesn't do anything special, but he did rush for 12 touchdowns last season and improved as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. However, Murray was running behind one of the league's best offensive lines in Oakland and he will now be stuck behind one of the worst. It's unknown how Jerick McKinnon will factor into the mix, but Murray figures to be a volume-dependent RB2 in 2017.

The Vikings were the worst team in the NFL in schedule-adjusted Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play last season, so Murray should help. Among the 42 running backs with at least 100 rushing attempts in 2016, he finished 12th in Rushing NEP per attempt.
