Browns will release Robert Griffin III

The Cleveland Browns will release quarterback Robert Griffin III, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

What It Means:

The Browns are also expected to part ways with Brock Osweiler, who they just acquired from the Houston Texans on Thursday. They appear to have their sights set on New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who is reportedly coming with an asking price of the number-one overall pick in this year's draft. Griffin will likely get picked up as a backup somewhere. He completed 59.2 percent of his passes for a 6.0 yards per attempt -- both career-lows -- in five appearances last season for the Browns.

Griffin's -0.13 Passing Net Expected Points per dropback ranked 37th among the 39 passers to have at least 100 dropbacks in 2016.
