Saints part ways with Jairus Byrd
The New Orleans Saints released defensive back Jairus Byrd.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the move will become official on March 9, the first day of the new league year. The Saints made Byrd the highest-paid safety in the NFL with a massive deal in 2014, but between injuries and poor play, he never lived up to the billing. The veteran defensive back turns 31 in October.
The Saints finished third-worst in the NFL last season in schedule-adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points allowed per play.
