Geno Smith willing to accept backup role
New York Jets impending free agent quarterback Geno Smith (ACL) said he would be "fine" with a backup role, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Smith would of course prefer to start, but he's willing to "start from the bottom" and "climb [his] way back to the top." The Jets remain unlikely to bring him back, so it remains to be seen where the former second-round pick might end up.
Over the last two years, Smith has dropped back just 62 times, accruing 0.05 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back -- well below the NFL average of 0.11 in that span. Despite that, his Passing Success Rate (the percent of drop backs that gain positive NEP) is an acceptable 48.39 percent.
