Jordan Phillips to take over Dolphins' starting spot

Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Jordan Phillips is expected to take over as the team's starter alongside Ndamukong Suh.

What It Means:

Phillips actually made 11 starts last year, but Earl Mitchell's release will lock him into more of a full-time role. "Jordan is a player that, if you can take his explosive or flash plays, you can make a tape and it's special," outgoing Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said after the season. "But you can take his bad plays also and make a lowlight tape." The 52nd overall pick in the 2015 draft, Phillips needs to improve his consistency.

Phillips earned 23 tackles and 0.5 sacks this year. The Dolphins finished the season ranked 18th in schedule-adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points allowed per play.
