Buccaneers haven't given up on Doug Martin despite suspension
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven’t given up on suspended running back Doug Martin for 2017, WFLA’s Roy Cummings reports.
The Bucs can get out of Martin’s contract without any guaranteed money, but "intend to play the situation out." Tampa is still expected to add depth through the draft or free agency with Martin set to miss the first three games of the regular season. The Bucs currently have Charles Sims, Peyton Barber and Russell Hansbrough behind him on their depth chart.
Among the 42 running backs with at least 100 rushing attempts this year, Martin's -0.20 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt ranked second-worst. His career-worst Rushing NEP per attempt prior to 2016 was -0.10 during the 2013 season.
