Adrian Peterson

Vikings' Adrian Peterson could go to Cowboys if talks falls through

The Dallas Cowboys could be an "option" for running back Adrian Peterson if he can't agree to a contract restructure with the Minnesota Vikings this offseason, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

What It Means:

The Vikings aren't opposed to bringing back Peterson for 2017, but they won't do it at his current $18 million salary. The Cowboys have shown previous interest in Peterson, but if he went there, he'd have to settle for a backup role behind first-team All-Pro Ezekiel Elliott. AP would have a better chance to start if he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or New York Giants, who have also been linked to Peterson.

There were 88 running backs to notch at least 30 rushing attempts this year. Peterson earned -0.39 Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt, by far the worst rate among that group.
