Brandon Marshall promises big season with Jets next year

New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall "promise(d)" he'll be in the top five in receiving yards in 2017.

What It Means:

"Last year was a down year for several reasons," Marshall said on ESPN's First Take. "I had 700-and-something yards. But this year, I promise you, I'll be in the top five." Marshall's 788 receiving yards were second-lowest for his career outside of his rookie year. Set to turn 33 in March, Marshall's future with the Jets remains uncertain. If he sticks with Gang Green, he's going to need much better quarterback play to fulfill his promise.

Among the 41 receivers with at least 100 targets in 2016, Marshall's Reception Net Expected Points per target of 0.58 ranked sixth-worst. He also struggled to find the end zone, scoring just three times after turning in 45 combined touchdowns over the previous four season.
