Eagles say Ryan Mathews is still the lead back
Philadelphia Eagles running back Ryan Mathews is still the "lead guy" in the Eagles' backfield, head coach Doug Pederson said.
Actions speak louder than words: Mathews has "started" 5 of the team's 7 games this season, but Darren Sproles has played 113 more snaps overall and out-snapped Mathews by a considerable margin (62 to 8) this past Sunday night. Mathews will be impossible to trust as a fantasy starter Week 9 against the New York Giants.
Sproles ranks 19th in our fantasy projections for running backs this week. Our models peg him for 77 yards from scrimmage and 0.29 touchdowns on 14 total touches.
