DeForest Buckner to open season as 49ers' starter
San Francisco 49ers first-round defensive end DeForest Buckner will open the season as a starter.
It is not a surprise after he spent all camp with the first-team defense, but it is a good sign of the development for the seventh overall pick of the year's NFL Draft. He will start opposite fellow giant and former Oregon teammate Arik Armstead, who is expected to be ready for Week 1 despite a shoulder injury.
Our algorithms project the mountainous Buckner for 44.83 tackles and 4.93 sacks in his rookie year.
