Jets aware of Christian Hackenberg's flaws in throwing mechanics

The New York Jets' coaching staff has acknowledged that second-round quarterback Christian Hackenberg has flaws in his mechanics.

What It Means:

The Jets are taking it one step at a time with Hackenberg, letting him learn the playbook in his rookie year before tweaking his throwing. "It's like a golfer," said quarterbacks coach Kevin Patullo. "You don't want to change his swing midseason." Right now Hackenberg is a distant fourth on the team's quarterback depth chart, and is unlikely to see any action in his rookie year.

Among the 46 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs this season, returning starter Ryan Fitzpatrick finished 2015 13th in Passing Net Expected Points per drop back. There is no need for the Jets to rush Hackenberg into regular-season games.
