Eagles could feature Darren Sproles in passing game

The Philadelphia Eagles will "feature" running back Darren Sproles in the passing game this season, the Philadelphia Inquirer's Zach Berman expects.

What It Means:

According to Berman, new offensive coordinator Frank Reich said that every week during meetings, the coaching staff would ask, "How can we get this guy the football?" regarding Sproles. Sproles caught 55 passes last season, but could jump back up into a range similar to his production when he was with the New Orleans Saints. Ryan Mathews isn't going to play on third downs, leaving all of that work to Sproles. Reich was the Chargers' offensive mastermind last season when Danny Woodhead caught 80 balls.

The smart money is to bet against a 33-year-old Sproles from making an even bigger offensive dent this season, but with our models projecting him for 458 receiving yards and 1.40 touchdowns on 58 catches, 65 to 75 receptions doesn't seem out of the question. We also believe he'll add 302 yards and 2.53 touchdowns on 65 rushing attempts this year.
