Muhammad Wilkerson to play out final year of contract

New York Jets defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson intends to play out the final year of his deal if a long-term contract is not reached by Week 1.

What It Means:

Wilkerson does not want his contract to linger into the regular season. He was named to the Second-Team All-Pro during the 2013 season.

Wilkerson will attempt to revive a Jets defense that ranked 26th in our schedule-adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points (NEP) metric under new head coach Todd Bowles. Bowles led the Cardinals to a top-10 Adjusted Defensive NEP as defensive coordinator despite injuries all across the unit. We project Wilkerson to finish the season with 51.5 tackles and 8 sacks.
