Broncos quarterback situation a tricky, two-man race

The Denver Broncos quarterback battle is a "tricky situation," head coach Gary Kubiak explained on Wednesday.

What It Means:

General manager John Elway reiterated the quarterback position is "going to be wide open," with both he and Kubiak agreeing that Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian have failed to create any separation for themselves from one another. Kubiak added that rookie Paxton Lynch struggled with "verbiage, huddle, those types of things" through OTAs and minicamp, apparently pushing himself out of serious contention for Week 1 starting duties as a result. It appears to be a two-man race between Sanchez and Siemian, although it doesn't bode well for the "Sanchize" that he's struggling to earn the job over someone with no career passing stats on his resume. Kubiak said he is "interested" to see how the two signal-callers "look" in team drills, revealing that they will "split" first-team reps to open camp, with Sanchez likely getting the initial action.

Our algorithms currently expect Sanchez to earn the starting gig, projecting him for 3,668 passing yards, 20.41 touchdowns and 15.58 interceptions on 552 attempts this upcoming season.
